Pomegranate Tree (Punica granatum)
Description
The Pomegranate Tree, scientifically known as Punica granatum, is a deciduous shrub or small tree that belongs to the Lythraceae family. It is native to the Middle East and South Asia, but it is now widely cultivated in many parts of the world, including the Mediterranean region, California, and Arizona. The tree can grow up to 5-8 meters in height, but it is usually pruned to maintain a height of 1.2m to 2.5m for easy harvesting of the fruit. The Pomegranate Tree has a dense, bushy growth habit with multiple stems and branches. The leaves are glossy, dark green, and oblong-shaped, measuring about 3-7 cm in length. The tree produces beautiful, showy flowers that are bright red or orange in color and about 3-4 cm in diameter. The flowers are followed by the fruit, which is a large, round, and leathery berry
