Common Name
Japanese Spindle ‘Albomarginatus’
Family Name
Celastraceae
Description
An excellent group of shrubs – Euonymus species contain some of the most desirable variegation found in plants and ‘Albomarginatus’ despite being a mouthful to say has a delicate subtle variegation not found in many other plants. The shrub is dense and bushy and will easily form an effective hedge and topiary if required as it is easy to shape over the course of a year. The flowers are insignificant and berries are rarely produced especially if the plant is kept trimmed as it is the leaves that are the desired attribute.
The oval, dark green leaves are tinged with a delicate margin of white making this plant seemingly shimmer in the twilight and blaze during sunny days. An excellent ornamental shrub for specimen planting or inclusion in a mixed border.
Latin Name Explanation
Euonymus – From the Greek eu-, (good) and onoma, (name). japonica – From Japan. Albo = white Marginatus = edge
